Douglas Lovelace – Ear Training Instructor

Guitar | Bass | Keyboards | Harmony | Musical Intuition Specialist

Douglas Lovelace is a seasoned musician and respected instructor who brings decades of professional experience to his role as an ear training educator. With a teaching philosophy centered around instinctive musicality, Douglas empowers students to play by ear—listening, recognizing, and responding to music without the need for traditional notation. His dynamic approach unlocks a deeper connection between the player and the instrument, fostering creativity, confidence, and improvisational fluency.

Through structured call-and-response drills, guided listening exercises, and live jam sessions, Douglas trains students to identify chords, intervals, harmonies, and rhythmic patterns by sound alone. He helps them develop the essential skill of playing what they hear, encouraging intuitive musical decision-making and personal expression.

Specializing in guitar, bass, keyboards, and vocal harmony, Douglas integrates his extensive real-world experience into each lesson. His professional background includes studio sessions, live performances, and collaborations with some of the most iconic artists in music history, including:

Derek DOA Allen, Charles Wright, Sheila E, Cynthia Robinson, Bloodstone, Dawn Silva, Charlie Wilson, Tito Jackson, Wayman Tisdale, Lenny Williams, Chuckii Booker, George Clinton, George Duke, Mtume, Johnny Otis, Kim Waters, Club Nouveau, and Too Short—among many others.

Douglas brings authenticity, mentorship, and mastery to every student interaction, inspiring emerging artists to trust their ears, hone their instincts, and find their own musical voice
